Other Wars and Deployments

Following the removal of Pol Pot and his reign of terror in Cambodia, in 1991 the United Nations created the United Nations Transitional Authority Cambodia (UNTAC). In answer to the call, in Canada a large number of personnel were recruited from the Primary Reserve and augmented into Petawawa’s Special Service Force (SSF). Led by 2 Service Battalion, 20% of the drivers and one section commander, were from Ontario Reserve units. Notably, forty percent of one contingent was female, the highest proportion Canada had deployed to that point. It was noted that their involvement brought unique logistical hurdles in the tropical climate of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. However, displaying their innate abilities to adjust and contribute, the women proved a valuable and irreplaceable advantage to the overall success the Canadian force achieved.

This bio/documentary for years 1992/93 was composed by a young Canadian Reservist.
