ARMY Biographies

The First Hussars, formed in 1856, is London’s oldest Regiment. In World War Two, they converted from cavalry to armour in 1939 and were one of the few regiments to go Active before Canada declared war on September 10, 1939. Landing on Juno Beach on D-Day and fighting for the next eleven months across North West Europe, the Regiment experienced a 350% turn-over in tanks lost resulting in a casualty list showing 196 Killed in Action.
